“Reducing Inequality in America”
Several readings in the last section of this unit discuss ways to reduce inequality, but many of them have limitations in that they address poverty more so than inequality. Which of these policies do you think would have the greatest impact on inequality (income and/or wealth) specifically, as opposed to just poverty, and why? What additional policies might you suggest to go further than the policies covered in these readings?
Which policies, either from the readings, your own suggestions, or those of your classmates, would be the easiest legislation to pass and why?
What about the hardest and why? What kind of opposition might there be, and if you were a legislator, what arguments would you use to support the policy and what counter arguments might you have to address the opposition?
