The purpose of the research essay is to allow you to develop both your own historical interpretation of a selected topic and your critical thinking and writing skills. Your aim is to acquaint yourself with the various interpretations of the topic.
You are required to use a minimum of 6 sources. You may use any of the reading material provided in the units of the course, including the textbooks. You are also expected to find other sources as required for your research. Of the 6 sources, 2 of which must be books and 2 of which must be journal articles. The online books, pdfs, and eBooks can be used in the place of hard copy books and journal articles.
As a minimum you must provide a title page, bibliography and use footnotes in the Chicago (sometimes called Turabian) Style. Use the “Notes-Bibliography Style” version of Chicago.
