Present a written case study which gives an example of clinical practice which you have studied during your course. Identify and discuss any differences found between the practice as taught to you as a student and the practice observed during clinical placement. Present your findings with reference to the evidence base that underpins that area of clinical practice.
Within your work consider the following questions:
• What are the differences you have observed?
• What reasons do you think lie behind these differences?
• What barriers do you feel may prevent evidence based practice being implemented in the workplace?
• How might this affect your patients?
• Who leads knowledge transfer into clinical practice in the workplace environment?
In addressing the question remain focused on the learning outcomes. You case study should be underpinned by your knowledge of disease management – that is the pathophysiology and the clinical care undertaken. Your critical analysis should clearly identify underpinning evidence related to the case study and how this evidence has been applied in practice, with a focus on the relationship between theory and practice.
