1 Review the class to know how many students have plants growing in their surrounding
and how many families have a garden. Ask them to list (orally) what things
are done to grow plants and what stages growing plants go through.
KWL- review types of plants that grows in their surroundings. Students will draw a picture of their plant, showing how the plants look at the beginning and the end. Also label the name of the plant. Shows students real examples of different types of plants.
Students will use pictures, symbols or phonetically spelled words to record about the requirements of growing plants and the stages plants undergo in their English journals. The assignment will be graded according to rubric.
2 Students will correctly identify 3 out of 5 things a plant requires to grow.
What causes a plant to grow? What does a plant require to grow? Students will be grouped to draw pictures of the five things that plants requires to grow: Sunlight, air, nutrients, water and soil. Students will complete a worksheet of a plant, classifying the things that plants require to grow. The students will be asked individually to name the five things that plants requires to grow.

Provided with a soil sample of various varieties such potting soil, loam, sand and clay. let the students compare them visually and by touch when both the soils are dry and wet. Students will name the various type of soil with 75% precision.
What is the type of the soil? Is the type of soil appropriate for the growth of plants? Students will be grouped into groups to identify the appropriate type of soil for plant germination. Students will briefly discuss the likely influences of the different types of soil on plant growth. The instructor will supervise the guided practice groups.
4 Students will locate plants in all the growth stages in the garden with 85% precision.
Which plant is in the “seed” stage? Which plant is in the “flowering” stage?
Which plant is in the “fruit” stage? Students will be grouped to visit the garden and categorize various parts of plants. Students will record their findings on their writing journal to draw a diagram of the plants they observe in the garden, and label the different parts of each plant. The tutor will supervise the guided practice time.
5 Students will plant their allocated seeds and write down on their log template and the steps they followed. Similarly, they will record the farming steps that individually corresponds to their respective English journals. Briefly highlight daily upkeep encouraging each group to work together day to day to look after their growing plants. Student will be allocated different seeds and identify a correct place to plant their seeds. Students will record how they cared for the plant, what did they observe if the plant was mature, and how did they know the plant was growing. At an appointed time the teacher will have the groups display their plants for assessment.
