Clergy Interview. Students will select an ORDAINED member of the clergy from any religion to interview. Interviews can be done in person, on the telephone, or by email. Be sure to introduce the person interviewed by including name, organization, place where they work, degree(s) held, and how many years served as active clergy.
Ask the following questions:
Why did they want to be clergy?
What is the best part of the job?
What is the hardest part of the job?
Students are to create a 4th question for this interview based upon research of a current event or issue (i.e., Supreme Court decisions, new laws, portrayal of religion in the media, etc.) The question should be POLITE, objective, and use concise/elevated language. Be sure to phrase the question with information on why the question is being asked.
Then: Do a brief analysis of the interview. What did you learn?
Include a works cited. The interview is one citation and the research for the question created by the student is the second.
Students may use a Q and A format for the four major questions of the interview. Students may do some summarizing and editing of the replies to shorten the answers for this paper. This paper should be 500 – 700 words in length, not including the works cited.
