Explain. Are these decisions coming from creditable sources? Do these people have credentials?

After reading a few articles and doing some research I am to wondering how well the FDA is protecting us from hazards in our food in water. I had already had this opinion but my resources have just made that opinion stronger. I know they protecting us some but it seems as though other things are being looked over. The FDA are telling us somethings are dangerous in some products we use but are leaving them in others. Why is Red # 3 being used in our foods and being allowed for us to consume when it is not okay to put on our skin? “After finding out that Red #3 causes cancer in animal studies the FDA banned it from cosmetics in 1990. Yet, the FDA still permits Red #3 in our food and you’ll find it in chewing gum, Nesquik Strawberry Milk, popsicles, yogurts, fruit cocktail, Duff’s cake mix, Betty Crocker icing and candy – but you won’t find it legally in lipstick.” (Food Babe)

Decisions are made if additives safe but who are making these decisions. Are these decisions coming from creditable sources? Do these people have credentials? “Additionally, the FDA allowed companies that created food products to determine whether or not a food additive was generally recognized as safe, also known as GRAS. In some cases, these companies did not even notify the FDA of this determination!” (Bartolotto)

In summary if we can’t trust the FDA with things as important as consuming something that could cause cancer or with who makes the decisions what can we trust them with? How do we know any of our food and water is safe?
