Write an essay outline for a project report that has two parts –i) a standalone Literature Review (main part) and ii) an organising framework proposal based on the reviewed literature. The design of the latter will take into consideration local affordances, constraints, and needs of Karama PS teachers, and anticipate, and suggest ways to work with, their perceptions. (5,000-5,500 words)
Research Topic: Investigating Lesson Study as a possibility for improving teaching practice at Karama Primary School.
Research questions:
1) What is Lesson Study? What are the different ways in which Lesson Study was organised in Japan and western world schools, including Australia, and how did participating teachers perceive lesson study as a professional development process? (To progress with this question, develop some criteria for comparison of different ways of implementing/using LS across countries/institutional contexts)
2) As teachers engaged in Lesson Study, what are they learning and how are they learning? And how did engaging in Lesson Study affect teachers’ instruction?
3) What tools are suggested in the literature for teachers to evaluate their growth in pedagogy as a result of Lesson Study cycles?
All questions have a very specific relevant to local context (school in the Northern Territory of Australia – so when discussing different papers, the discussion will need to be done in conjunction with local context. What is similar, what is different, what can be useful and what awareness is required)
