Choose your quotes carefully and explain how they support your interpretation and argument.

ssignment: Create a text that demonstrates a grasp of analysis (arguing an interpretation). To accomplish a strong argumentative focus, make sure your thesis is supported by strong examples and clear explanation (make sure what you say can be debated). For the analysis, break the chosen text down into its various parts and examine how they work individually or as a coherent piece. Choose your quotes carefully and explain how they support your interpretation and argument.

Be sure to focus on the author’s credibility/expertise/authority. Do some outside research on his ideas and claims. Did you find that his ideas mesh with other authors in the field and is he credible? You will need to use a secondary source in your support paragraphs. The secondary source is your opportunity to connect the author’s ideas to what others are saying. Comparison or contrast will help you to create synthesis in your paragraphs for this essay.

Create an Introduction/summary (free of bias and quotes) that prepares readers for your analysis of the book. Be sure to include the author’s name and title of the piece at the start of your summary.

Create a one sentence thesis statement that demonstrates your analysis and argument.

Create topic sentences that support your chosen thesis statement (be sure to use analysis terms and connect back to your thesis)

Incorporate quotes from the primary and secondary texts to support your topic sentence claims. Secondary sources must, any sources other than the book, need to come from the library databases.
