Description

As we are looking at two of our larger religions this week, I think it would be interesting to look at how Christianity and Judaism are evolving in modern times. I recently attended a Bar Mitzvah and was pleasantly surprised when the Rabbi grabbed up a guitar and a Star of David tambourine and started jamming. As my mother’s church has a drum circle, this should not have been too surprising, but it still struck me as oddly out of place next to the traditionalism of much of the ceremonial rites.

Yet, shouldn’t a religion actually reach the people?

And if the purpose of religion is to help people reach a deeper meaning, does it matter if that meaning in reached through reading a text in a language no longer used or through a fun song?

This week I would like you to read this article suggesting that perhaps it is time for Synagogues to follow the currently working model of the Mega-Church.

What are your thoughts on the Jewish faith following the model which seems to work so well for so many?

You will need to click to get to this video, but it is interesting to note that every televangelist I could find who were Jewish also spoke favorably of Jesus.

Why do you think that would be?

What are your thoughts on how these mega temples might work?

Does the Jewish faith need to switch to the Mega-church model to survive?

Do they have a better way to maintain membership?
