The major written assignment in this course is designed to provide you with an opportunity to explore how social psychological theories and concepts apply to real world concerns in human societies. Applied social psychology is a growing area of the field, and this assignment is meant to introduce you to this way of thinking and conducting research. For this project you will develop and submit a proposal for a social program, social change or social intervention that is focused on making a positive change to a “community” or “social group” that you feel related to, or are interested in. You will NOT actually be conducting the intervention as part of the project, but will be submitting a proposal outlining what you would do, and that explains how your suggestions are integrating social psychological research. This proposal should include a review of literature supporting your argument, a description of the change, program or intervention that you are proposing, and a basic plan about how you would explore its effectiveness. The proposal should be 6 pages long (NOT including the title page or reference sheet). It should be double spaced, written in 12pt font using APA style, and it should include at least THREE references to empirical studies in social psychology in addition to the textbook.
