Explain do you attribute any importance to reading the Apocrypha? What might make it worth reading?

The Apocrypha sheds light on the intertestamental period, that is the time between the Old Testament/Tanak canon and the New Testament. But the Apocrypha is not canon for all Christians. However, should we read the Apocrypha whether or not a denomination deems it is inspired and canon? For some of you, this question may be easier if you are Catholic or Orthodox. But even so, we have a tendency to gloss over or not read canonized books of our own denomination. For others, Protestants in particular, this question may raise serious concerns. Even if you do not consider the Apocrypha to be canon or inspired, the question still stands before you—should we at least read the Apocrypha? If you are not Christian, do you attribute any importance to reading the Apocrypha? What might make it worth reading?
