Crusaders are sometimes romanticized as gallant knights in movies today, and in art and literature of crusading times, such as the tympanum of Ste-Madeleine in Vézelay and Song of Roland. Take a stance: was crusading noble or depraved? What, if any, moral justification was given for the Crusades? What is your evaluation of the motives and justification for the Crusades? Argue for and support your position, maintaining civil and respectful communication as indicated in the course policy.

Consider the perspectives of those who initiated crusades, the participants, and the groups attacked in the crusades. Also, consider how crusades and conflicts had an impact on both cultures, especially as seen in the arts and literature.
