There are different methods of voting discussed. In majority voting, we can be sure that the winner gained the support of over half the voters. Plurality voting ensures that the highest number of votes wins, but the number of people who voted for that candidate may be less than half. However, the cost of running a run-off election is saved. In sequential run-offs, point systems, or pairwise comparisons, preference schedules are used and the majority of voters will find the winner acceptable, but these same voters might prefer other candidates as winner. Also, the United State’s method of using popular vote to select Electors who then select the President is discussed.
