Historical information helps demonstrate your knowledge of radio and podcasting. The key is to choose one or two historical aspects that directly illustrate what you want to focus on in your Take-Home Essay. Everything has a historical context. You may find that you weave historical analysis in with your analysis of what the scholars write. Harrison’s conceptualization of the Black community through campus-based hip-hop radio looks at the 1990s, for example. Even Brekke’s analysis of “Yellow Rain” has historical qualities to it in that it shows how a podcast investigates the past. Whatever is in the past is historical.
