Part 1 – Summarize the story – be sure to include a character description, identification of the special need/disability, and the main points of the action
Part 2 – Describe this disability – definition, characteristics, prevalence, etc. and how this description relates to what was described in the novel
Part 3 – Relate how knowledge about this disability will influence your perspective and your interactions with people in your professional life in the future. What accommodations, etc. can you implement if working with a student with this disability.(Refer to the section in your text that discusses this disability group or web sites that address accommodations for that particular disability group – e.g. if you read Deenie you would describe accommodations for children with other physical disabilities described in chapter 10 of the text, or if you read Cut you would then reference emotional/behavioral disorders as referenced in chapter 8 of the text as well as other sources dealing with emotional/behavior disorders)
While it is admirable to be kind and compassionate those are not accommodations.
H.IEPs guide the accommodations and PT and OT are additional services and are not accommodations. Accommodations are what you would implement in your classroom or request for a child with a disability. An example would be if you are dealing with a hearing disability you would reference Tips for making adjustments for ease of hearing and seeing speakers as outlined in the text in addition to those found from outside sources.
