Dovidio et al. argue that the creation of ingroups and outgroups is a normal, psychological process that is part of the efficiency of thinking. Even so, the creation of ingroups and outgroups can contribute to both intergroup conflict and inequality. Based on the readings from Brewer, Fiske, Devine, and others, including Dovidio et al, what do we know about ingroups and outgroups, how we respond to them, and how we reduce likely intergroup conflict?
