Peer Interviews
Find 2-3 people who are not mental health professionals, to interview.
Create 6-10 questions you can ask them regarding ethical expectations they would have if a family member was seeing a counselor (e.g., “What do you think if the counselor told your family member they needed to go to church?”).
Ask questions they may have heard through the news or other sources about ethical violations committed by mental health professionals (e.g., Medicare fraud, improper counselor-client behavior, touching).
After the interviews have been completed, summarize the results of the responses and include your perception of the ideas shared.
Would you say that interviewees (consumers) have the same ethical expectations of mental health professionals that the ACA or AACA has of mental health professionals?
In conclusion, develop a list of ethical priorities that consumers have and compare those priorities with the ACA or AACA codes of ethics (e. g., Based on responses from consumers, counselors should not tell people to go to church).
