This is OCR Task 2 Comparative Essay.

Both the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns and Postcards from God need to be compared and contrasted on their portrayal of women’s experiences in patriarchal societies. Context either societal, political, cultural need to be incorporated.

This can be done through statistics, critics etc (footnote these when used) Furthermore incorporate context from both writers (how their backgrounds might affect their viewpoint for example and again footnote this) When quotes from the poems or novel are used and analysed footnote them too.

The chosen poems from the collection of poems are, Purdah I, Purdah II, Another Woman, The mask and A Woman’s place (however only 3-4 of these need to be used) These should be available online but can provide a copy if needed.

The boards expectations: Candidates submit an essay considering two texts exploring contrasts and comparisons between them, informed by different interpretations and an understanding of contexts.
