Codes Design Journal
The purpose of the Codes Design Journal is to give students an opportunity to observe use of building codes, standards, and guidelines in practice.
Each week you will review building plans with a focus on the Code Specifications. Additionally, you will add information based on in-person observations along with photos. You will also add feedback from peers on your findings.
For this week:
Select one of the buildings listed under Files:
(1) Identify one item from the plans related to the interior design of the space for the focal design element. This can be circulation, egress, a fixture, power/data, lighting, a material, etc.
(2) Describe how it is illustrated and noted on the construction document sheets. How many sheets is the element on? How is it illustrated? Is it possible to improve the design? How would it be improved?
(3) Go out and photograph similar uses of the item in local buildings. Show the photos close up with a minimum of 6 photos for 2 different buildings. There is no maximum number of photos.
