To analyze a major character or theme in Paradise through a critical lens of New Historicism, Critical Race Theory, or Feminist Criticism.
This assignment is the opportunity for you to choose one critical method, one approach, one lens, one framework, and demonstrate your understanding of that method and its specialized language by applying it to a particular text.
The end result is a better understanding of both the primary text (the work of literature) and the critical method you choose.
What exactly you do with the primary text, whether you think of it as interpretation, analysis, critique, or some other operation, will be up to you.
But the end result should be an engaging, eye-opening piece of writing that leaves us feeling you really know your text, your critical methodology, and what Morrison is arguing.
