Comparing Myth in the 21st Century
f you tell a well-read person that you are taking a course on myth, chances are they will mention Jung or Campbell. If your conversation partner is up to date in their knowledge of myth studies, they will also know the work of Jordan B. Peterson.
Peterson borrows from Jung but Jungian analysis is only one of many tools in his robust analytical toolkit, which also includes cutting-edge research into many areas such as neuropsychology, biology, and many of the social sciences (e.g., sociology, psychology).
After watching the clip of Peterson’s lecture that you viewed this week, what is the connection between understanding myth and understanding the life of an individual? What is the value of this perspective for comparing a myth to one’s own life? For comparing myths cross-culturally?
