Discussion Post 2
Read the article titled “Mindfulness and Parenting: A Correlational Study of Non-
meditating Mothers of Preschool Children”.
Answer the following questions, about 150 words per question in your own words, linking your responses to relevant sections of the research article.
Discussion questions align with the section “Some Final Suggestions” found in Leedy and Ormrod (2019) chapter 6. (Practical Research Planning & Design)
Article and book discussion questions are attached in a pdf
Questions:
1. Evaluate the sample: How did the authors select the sample for this study (what sampling design was used or inferred), and from what population did they draw the sample? Was their sample appropriate and sufficient for the research design that the authors used? Was there potentially sampling bias, and if so, what kind? Does the sample reasonably represent the population? What sample and population information is missing that would help the reader discern the appropriateness of the sample?
2. What kinds of measures and procedures were used to collect the data in this study? Were they appropriately aligned to the purpose of the study? Did the authors provide evidence of validity and reliability of the measures, and if so, what kinds of evidence? Was bias potentially introduced into the study (e.g. instrumentation bias, response bias, or researcher bias)? How might authors have strengthened the study by improving the measures and procedures?
3. Were the interpretations of study findings reasonable, clear, and meaningful? What conclusions did the authors draw, and were they appropriate given the correlational design, sampling, measurement, and potential bias in the study?
4. If you could redesign this study, what three changes would you make the improve the study?
