Students will write a 2-3 page paper (APA Format required) discussing your assessment and diagnosis of the identified client, Ms. K.
Client Vignette:
Ms. K is a divorced, Caucasian woman in her 70’s with a genius level IQ and medical issues that include Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and a history of bipolar disorder.
She has anxiety related to her diagnosis of COPD, has had two heart attacks, and has had a previous suicide attempt. She has gone much of her life without receiving treatment for her diagnosis of bipolar disorder, and it is expected that this has contributed to her progressive dementia symptoms.
The antidepressant medication that she takes could lead to potential antidepressant-induced manic episodes, sleep problems, and delirium.
Her children and grandchildren are geniuses, which presents as clinically significant, as decline in cognitive functioning does not fit the framework of the family. Ms. K’s MMSE score was clinically significant for cognitive impairment.

2. Utilize the Folstein Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE) to assess the client ‘s cognitive function (link can be found below). Submit the completed MMSE with your paper.
Your paper should cover the following topics:
Define Ms. K with a short paragraph using the 4 D’s (Deviance, Distress, Dysfunction, and Danger)
Assess her depression from the video content and comment on her mood and possible diagnostic impressions you have Do you believe Ms. K is depressed?
What are your diagnostic impressions?
What is your DSM diagnosis and code (some small assumptions may be needed).
Complete the MMSE, watch the videos, and score Ms. K using the instrument. Report the score and your impressions.
