Explain what the image tells about its culture’s use of visual media to explore identity.

You do not need to use an essay format. If you prefer to use point form or to break your analysis down into three sections, that’s completely fine.

You will be asked to perform:
1) a visual analysis, analyzing the image’s formal qualities and its content.
2) A hermeneutic approach to interpreting the image’s potential meanings and social uses.
3) Explain what the image tells about its culture’s use of visual media to explore identity.

You do not need to use sources from outside our course, in fact, you are strongly discouraged (but not prohibited) from doing so.

If you do choose to use outside sources, you must include a web link to the source at the end of your analysis. This will serve as your reference. Plagiarism or failure to cite outside sources by including a link will result in a grade of 0 for your analysis.

• Any outside sources must be appropriate for academic writing. This means no Wikipedia, blogs, news articles, or personal websites of any kind. Using sources that are inappropriate according to this document will result in a loss of 2 points.
