You are a manager of a Target store with a team of 10 employees. On the morning before the busiest day for your store (the day after Thanksgiving), 2 of your full team employees have called out sick.
This leaves the store short staffed and employees disgruntled about the anticipated work load. You have a pool of 3 on-call employees that you can possibly utilize to fill in the gaps. In addition, there is no policy currently for calling out on “busy days”.
It is now 6pm and you need to be brainstorm how to effectively manage the busy store. How do you handle this situation?
