Discuss the quality of the coverage, the accuracy/inaccuracy of the images presented, the assumptions made about mental illness, and an overall evaluation of the coverage.

Option 1: Media and Mental Illness

Find a source of information in the media (e.g., newspaper, talk shows, TV programs, films, etc.) that deal directly with mental illness

You will need to cite this media source in your References page

Discuss the quality of the coverage, the accuracy/inaccuracy of the images presented, the assumptions made about mental illness, and an overall evaluation of the coverage.

Be scientific, back up your arguments with the research literature. How does this coverage affect those suffering from the particular form of mental illness covered?

Could you present the information in a better way? How?

Option 2: Disorder of Interest

Choose a disorder that was interesting to you. This disorder will be the topic of your paper.

In this paper the following criteria and parts should be included:

Summary and Overview of the disorder

For example

what does it look like (how might people display this disorder or how might others see this disorder)

what are hallmark criteria and symptoms (look in the DSM-5 for help)

what is the prevalence and are certain populations of people more vulnerable to it

what causes it (is it heritable, environmental factors contribute to it, role of hormones, stress, etc)

what are the neurological components

what are some difficulties an individual may face or have difficulties with this diagnosis

Treatment options (medications, types of therapy best for treatment, social skills training, etc.)

A short summary of a peer-reviewed article about the disorder (at least half a page)

Could be over the symptoms, the causes, the prevalence, and/or the treatment options

Students must find at least one peer review article discussing the chosen disorder.
