In this assignment, you will complete the Business Description section of your business plan. You have already completed the first section, which was an introduction to the organization and the summary of existing conditions that need change. The Business Description will frame the business idea or opportunity. It should answer the question: What problem are you trying to solve?
The opportunity could potentially be a case example to describe a customer or population’s pain point explaining how it is addressed today. If your product or service addresses something the market hasn’t yet identified as a problem (e.g., a dental office that provides evening hours of operations for the working families), then also describe how your solution reduces stress, saves money, or brings joy to the customer/population.
The Business Description section is where you will add the literature and the evidence that supports the “why” of your plan. After framing the opportunity, describe in detail your solution (product or service) and how it solves that problem, and benefits your customers/population.
This portion should also describe in more detail the product or service, how it will be supplied, pricing, and if there is an upgrade or extension for it in the future. For example, a business description for an idea to extend working hours for a dental office would describe the idea as a solution for working families who work during the day and can only visit the dental office during extended hours.
You could explain the idea as one that increases access to the dental office and potentially increases revenue by capturing patients that would have not otherwise been able to visit the dental office.
