Sirens produce a single tone, which is often not understood by people who hear it. Citizens sometimes don’t know the meaning of the siren. For electronic sirens, the voice message is often muffled by outside noises making it hard to hear. What are some other weaknesses for using sirens as a disasters alert system? 50 words
Using the media as a disaster warning system comes with many weaknesses. People may not be watching tv or listening to the radio during the event of a hazard or disaster. Power outages may also interrupt warnings through the media. Information given through the media isn’t always correct. What are some other weaknesses for using sirens as a disasters alert system? 50 words
Errors in the system can prevent certain warning systems from functioning or from accurately informing people of the threat. If the warning system is mostly automatic then they could fail to detect the threat entirely. Though these systems are regularly checked and tested, they will always have weaknesses and vulnerabilities.
