When evaluating health equity, three things should be determined: access to services, impact of services on disparities in health, and participation in/self-assessment of need for services.

Resources for States to Address Health Equity and Disparities – NASHP and evaluate your state, MS, and one other state’s health equity snapshot. If you can’t find recent material on your state, compare two states. You will have to do a little leg work on this by looking under menu and policies. Plan accordingly.

1. Identify states you evaluated.

2. Identify what your state does well.

3. Identify areas for improvement.

4. Compare the areas of what your state does well to the other state. Are you satisfied with your state’s performance in equity? Explain.

5. Compare areas for improvement with the other state. Do you still feel the same? Explain.

6. Compare funding for your state and a neighboring state.

o Based on funding information, do you feel your state maximizes allocated resources/funding to combat health disparities? In essence, are they efficient with funds to maximize health?

7. Should there be a pay for performance, in your opinion?

o Would this increase efforts for equity?

o Would this enhance efficiency?
