The Cube Exercise: In this step, you will develop your ideas and themes into a direction for researching; this is about taking those ideas and creating a research plan. Complete the following:
First: Write a full citation for the children’s book you are analyzing in your research paper.
Then, answer the following. This should be answered as short answers with numbers and complete sentences. This is not an essay. Write your answers thoughtfully as they will drive your research. These should be several sentences.
1. What is the information that is being taught to the audience of this book? What is the topic that is being promoted in the plot?
2. What is the basis for this topic in other words, why is this topic/concept being taught to children?
3. Make a list of ten things you already know about the idea/topic.
4. Make a list of ten things you want to know more about the idea/topic.
5. What will your paper be about? Write a dummy thesis. Use the link from the earlier module with sample thesis statements. Be sure that your dummy thesis contains: the title of the book, the author of the book, and the topic you have found from your analysis of the book.
6. List at least six places (words, actions, or behaviors) from the children’s book where you see this topic/issue presented.
