Many young people who are identified as having a mild intellectual disability are poor. What are some ways that poverty causes mild intellectual disabilities? Brainstorm ways that we as a society could improve the lives of poor children to decrease mild intellectual disabilities among this population. Do a web search and identify an organization or an individual that has taken a leadership role in combating poverty. What do you think teachers who teach in impoverished urban or rural areas can do to improve the lives of their students?
