How can you create emotional weight/impact through your choices? How can you create conflict/narrative arch? How can you give us a sense of setting and character?Explain.

Plot is an area that we don’t often single out for discussion. Because this element of story is driven by character, setting, and perspective, it is often considered to be the “easy” part of the story to navigate. However, more and more often modern texts are using unique formatting and structure to draw attention to plot as a key element of fiction.

Please use Amanda Brown’s “Love and Other Catastrophes: A Mix Tape” as a template for your second creative work.

Write:

Write a short, 1 page story using a list. You may use song titles if you would like, but you can be more creative. Consider works of art, a grocery/shopping list, a series of catch-phrases/quotes from movies/television, books read/movies watched/street signs passed, etc.

How can you create emotional weight/impact through your choices? How can you create conflict/narrative arch? How can you give us a sense of setting and character?

Keep in mind, this does not need to be the story of a relationship as it was in the short fiction from class [in fact, I prefer it not be too similar to the template “story”]. You may choose any conflict – whether internal, external, or both – to illustrate.
