Post a response to the following questions: Many places in the country have mandatory arrest policies for domestic violence police calls. That means when the cops go to a domestic call, and if they find probable cause to arrest someone for a crime (any crime – like assault, endangering, disorderly, etc.), they must arrest someone. No more just telling them to stop, or just telling one of them to sleep at their relatives for the night and cool off. No discretion. Someone must get arrested. Many other places have chosen not to adopt such a mandatory arrest policy.
What good things do you see in a “mandatory arrest in domestic violence” policy?
What bad things? If you were a police chief would you adopt such a policy?Give reasons.
