Written Policies Requirement
Create a Laboratory Protocol Manual using your current place of employment(EMERGENCY PASSPORT AGENCY) . If you are currently unemployed you will need to pick a company of your choosing to complete this assignment. For this assignment, you must include 12 standards from the list below. This assignment must be typed, double space, and 12- point font.
Written policies should be developed to detail the department’s standards for the following:
1. Flammable chemicals- What they are and how to avoid accidents and exposures? What the handling and storage requirements are? How to avoid accidents in using flammables?
2. Explosive and reactive chemicals- What they are and how to avoid accidents and exposures? What the handling and storage requirements are? How to prevent accidents in using chemicals?
3. Personal protective equipment- What equipment to use to prevent exposure to hazardous substances? How to use the equipment and which type of style is appropriate for each procedure? How to maintain or dispose of the equipment safely?
4. Respiratory equipment- What type of respiratory equipment to use for each procedure? How to fit test and maintain equipment? What are the correct cartridges or canisters are? Who should and should not use respiratory equipment? Regulations about wearing mustaches, beards, and contact lenses.
5. Noise Protection- When to wear ear protection. What type to wear? Which ear protectors meet requirements for adequate protection for various noise levels?
6. Firearms safety- when and how to handle a firearm. Basic rules and regulations of handling weapons. How to render a firearm “safe”? When not to accept a firearm into the facility.
7. Emergency procedures- Procedures established for dealing with medical, police, or fire emergencies. How to safely leave a burning building? Systems for cleaning the facility in an emergency. Where to report after an evacuation? Where to find the fire prevention plan? Whom to call when a coworker experiences a heart attack or electrocution. Procedures for dealing with a bomb threat.
8. Natural disaster procedures- Procedures established to protect employees in a hurricane. What to do and where to go for safety? Systems for cleaning the facility. Where to report after an evacuation?
9. First aid and CPR- Who knows first aid or CPR? When to call someone for first aid or CPR and what to do if no trained personnel are available? What first aid equipment is available in the workplace, where it is located, and how to use it?
10. Crime Scenes- Processing crime scenes, including clandestine laboratories, is hazardous. What preventive procedures to take to avoid the inherent dangers? What strategies to employ to decrease these hazards? What protective equipment to use in which circumstances? What to do when someone is injured at a scene? How to get immediate police, fire, or medical assistance?
11. Employee health screening- Who is screened? Whether the employer provides the baseline or only subsequent screenings. Which tests are performed?
12. Inspection- What is the schedule is for laboratory inspection? Who is responsible for the inspection? What the requirements are for passing? Procedures for surprise inspections. What measures are enforced necessary corrections after an inspection?
