Part I: Language, cognition, or consciousness (300 words minimum)
– What brain regions support human language function, how are they thought to achieve this function, and what are right/left hemisphere differences in language function?
– Choose one form of cognition, explain its proposed brain mechanisms, and report a new finding on this topic.
– Using our text and recent research, what is the neural basis of consciousness, and what is the unconscious? Are there ways to become “more conscious” and what research may or may not support this view?
– What is a myth or incorrect belief about language, other forms of cognition, or consciousness? What are the correct or more accurate understandings and how do we know?
Part 2: Abnormal language, cognition, or consciousness (300 words minimum)
– Choose a disorder of language, other cognition, or consciousness. Define the disorder and explain its symptoms, diagnosis, causes, neurology, and possible treatments. Explain what you found most surprising, interesting or useful.
