For this discussion, from your reading of their poetry in your text, argue at least one trait of an American that Whitman has and at least one trait of an American that Dickinson has.
Do your best to avoid mentioning dedication to literacy. Dickinson does write poems that start with mentions of writing and books. But look for other traits, as well.
