Read Chapters 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 choose one or two concepts within the chapter(s) and think about how these concepts apply to everyday life.

Part 1.

Begin your entry with a brief introduction describing the concept(s) you plan to use within the journal entry.

Define the concept(s) (provide a textbook definition, in quotes, including the page number) and describe the concept(s) in your own words.

Discuss how you personally identify with this concept. Write about/address what you consider important and/or interesting about the textbook concept (term, idea).

Part 2.

Discuss how the concept(s) applies in a communication situation/Give an example: Consider: An aspect of your life, a cartoon, an article, photograph, Instagram, Tweet, movie, song lyrics, poem, etc. Be creative and vary your examples throughout the term.

Describe who is involved in the situation AND the context of the situation. Be thorough in your descriptions- who what when where how why? Also describe how the textbook concept(s) helps to explain the communication situation.

Part 3.

In this section,specifically evaluate the communication situation (the example situation you just described above).

This section works as your conclusion be sure to evaluate the message sent and received in the example you wrote about for 2. Analyze and evaluate based on the three criteria for effective communication, as discussed in the first week Module.

Ask and Answer: Was message (in your example for 2 above) understood as intended? Did message achieve the intended effects-mental? physical? emotional? Was message ethical?).

If the communication message in your example situation above was not effective, what could be done differently? Different words? Different actions? Different interpretations?
