Discussion Questions
Each set is split in different sections.follow the same format.
Section 1
ECCE 1101
Directions:Read both chapters 3 and 4. Choose one question from each chapter. Your answers should be a complete paragraph of at least 5 – 7 sentences.
Chapter 3
What is your learning style? Choose one of the three learning styles outlined in this chapter. Describe the style and then provide a personal example explaining why it works best for you.
One of the greatest needs of children with disabilities and those from some ethnic and racial groups is to be accepted by peers. How would you support a child in making friends and being included?
Chapter 4
Piaget’s theory has been called both maturational and environmental; that is, both nature and nurture are at work. Why? Give an example of each from your own experiences with children.
In the “Connect the Dots: How Neuroscience Supports Theory and Developmentally Appropriate Practices,” DAP is linked with various learning theories. In what three areas does theory knowledge specifically guide the implementation of DAP?
Respond in a paragraph to each of these basic conditions for learning. Include in your answer how you would address them.

Choose one question to answer from each chapter. Your response should be at least 200 words in length. You are also required to respond to one other person’s discussion question response each week.
Chapter 5
You observe your teacher covering a cough and then continuing to prepare snacks for the children. What is wrong with this situation and how would you handle it?
Gabriel announces that he threw up all night. You notice that his eyes appear watery and his cheeks are flushed. What is wrong with this situation and how would you handle it?
You find that one of your aides has stored all of the children’s toothbrushes together in a sealed, plastic container. What is wrong with this situation and how would you handle it?
Describe specific practices that teachers can use to limit the spread of illnesses transmitted via the respiratory tract, fecal-oral route, skin conditions, and contaminated objects such as toys, towels, and changing mats.
Chapter 6
How do you feel about caring for children who are ill? Could you hold or cuddle a children with a high fever or diarrhea? What are your feelings about being exposed to children’s contagious illnesses? How might you react if an infant vomited on a new sweater of yours? What steps can you take to help you cope with situations like these?
You have just finished serving lunch to the children, when Mara begins to vomit. How do you handle this situation?
The class is involved in a game of keep-away. Ted suddenly complains of feeling dizzy. How do you handle this situation?
Leandra wakes up from her afternoon nap, crying because her ear hurts. How do you handle this situation?
Section 3
Chapter 4
What happens at each of the 3 stages of childbirth?
Describe how health professionals assess the health of newborns (neonates).
Describe the senses of a newborn (neonate).
What advise would you give a new parent about how to sooth a crying infant?
Section 4
You are required to respond to 2 discussion questions each week. These responses have to each be at least 200 words in length. You are also required to respond to one other person’s discussion question response each week. These responses to another person’s response need to be at least 100 words in length.
